Open a document in two tabs, two browsers, or two continents: keystrokes appear live, and everyone always ends up with the same document. There are no locks, no merge dialogs, and no “refresh to see changes.”

Edits merge automatically

Every edit you make is shared with everyone else in the document the moment you type it. Two people can edit the same paragraph — even the same word — at the same time, and both edits land; nobody’s keystrokes overwrite anyone else’s. Losing your connection is harmless too: keep writing while offline, and when you reconnect your changes sync up and merge cleanly with whatever happened while you were away. Undo is scoped per user: Cmd+Z reverts your own edits, never a collaborator’s.

Presence

Everyone connected to a document sees:
  • Remote cursors and selections, colored per user and labeled with their name.
  • Avatars of active collaborators in the document header.

One live copy of every document

Everything that touches a document — every browser tab, the desktop app, and the API — goes through the same live session:
  • Permissions apply in real time. Users with viewer or commenter roles see every edit live but cannot change the text.
  • API writes appear instantly. PUT /api/docs/{id}/content applies its change to the live document as a diff, so an update from a script or an agent shows up in every open editor immediately — and anything a human is typing at the same moment merges with it instead of being overwritten.
  • Nothing gets lost. Documents are saved continuously, so your work survives closed tabs, restarts, and deploys.

See what the AI wrote

Text an AI agent writes through the API sits on a subtle, always-on background tint, so you can see at a glance what the agent contributed versus what a human wrote. Human text stays plain. The tint is passive — there is no toggle. It is attributed from the document itself rather than from who is currently connected, so it persists across reloads and survives the agent disconnecting. Only text Scribe can positively attribute to an agent is tinted: untouched human text, and anything written before this feature existed, is left plain.

Comments stay anchored

Comment and suggestion threads are anchored to the text itself, not to line and column numbers, so discussions stay attached to the right words while everyone edits around them.
